 Muslim Vote 2008
OUR VOTE IS POWER!

                        Muslim Vote 2008

We live in a beautiful democracy, it is time to participate and make sure that the Muslim community is included. Muslim Vote 2008 is a non-partisan voter registration, education, and mobilization campaign aimed at the Muslim community in the Southwest Suburbs of Cook County. It is done in partnership with the Council of American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR). Over the past 2 years, the work of Mosque Foundation, CAIR and ICIRR has become a national model for immigrant empowerment through electoral civic engagement called the New Americans Democracy Project. NADP is an integrated campaign, simultaneously increasing citizenship, voting, and civic participation among people of various ethnicities, languages, and immigration statuses.

How Does Muslim Vote 2008 Work?

Mosque Foundation, CAIR, and ICIRR have teamed up to hire a New Americans Project Fellow: a full time leader from the Muslim community that is dedicated to registering our community to vote, helping people get to the polls, and educating our community about the issues in this years election. Mosque Foundation will be part of an effort to recruit volunteers in order to do phone-banks, canvasses, visibility events and an Election Day operation for our Muslim community.

This year, our fellow is Nadia Abusumayah. She recently graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice from Governors State University. She has been trained in community organizing, electoral politics, citizenship, and media relations. Nadia hopes to gain knowledge about the political arena before entering the law field. She plans on taking the LSAT and applying to law school in the near future.

If you would like to GET INVOLVED in our campaign, please send Nadia an email at e_nadiamail@yahoo.com OR call (312) 493.1324. We are looking for volunteers willing to talk to other Muslim voters about the importance of voting and motivating them to the polls.
