Convert Eid Party
by Connie Martin
Often times, someone newly embraces Islam, then eagerly fasts the month of Ramadan for the first time. As the celebration of Eid approaches and the Eid prayer is over, many new Muslims and even not so new Muslims find themselves saying, "Now what?" Because for many whose families are not sharing the joy of their holiday, they find themselves alone with nowhere to go after the initial excitement of the prayer service has concluded.
The Mosque Foundation Convert Support Group, in recognizing this issue, holds a potluck Eid party specifically for converts and their families on the Day of Eid. About 70 men, women and children were in attendance at the MFCC this year to celebrate the joy of Eid together. Parents had a chance to enjoy the afternoon dinner and dessert with friends while the children enjoyed crafts, games and prizes.
