We receive the news of the assassination of Benazir Bhutto with sadness. In any shape or form, murder represents a moral ugliness that all people of faith and conscience reject. It is especially heinous when one’s life is taken for no reason other than one’s political views. Dissent and diverse political opinions and perspectives are not only basic human rights, but requirements for any healthy society. Those responsible for Ms. Bhutto’s murder should be brought to justice, whoever they may be. And we pray for order and calm to be restored in Pakistan.
Whenever one dies, famous or otherwise, we are reminded of the preciousness and brevity of life. To God we all belong, and to Him is our return. No one achieves any honor in the Hereafter accept by God’s grace. And to God we direct our prayers, and upon Him do we rely. |
