Volunteer Spotlight – Samir Abuimeir
By Connie Martin
The Mosque Foundation has truly been blessed over the years in countless ways, including its many dedicated volunteers. A shining example of dedicated service comes from Samir Abuimeir, who has been an active volunteer at the Mosque Foundation and other local mosques since 1991. For the past 12 years, everyone coming to pray on Friday at the Mosque Foundation has seen Samir’s familiar face behind the falafel stand. “Even in the cold and snow of winter!” Samir adds with a smile. “I am looking for the blessings (ajjar) from Allah, and I have always liked helping people.” Samir states, “I like to bring my three daughters to the masjid so they can experience it and learn from my example about how important it is to help people.” Along with manning the falafel stand year round, Samir also volunteers his time and service in numerous other ways, including Ramadan and Eid, the busiest times at the Mosque Foundation. When asked what advice he would give to others who may be interested in volunteering their time, Samir offered this advice, “I would tell people to come to the masjid everyday, not just once a week! Don’t just stay home, come throw yourself in, there is always something to do, even if it’s just talking to the people, it still makes a difference.” May Allah reward Br. Samir and all our dedicated volunteers. |
