Archbishop of Jerusalem  Visits  Mosque  Foundation
by Connie Martin

The Palestinian-Israeli conflict is a well known issue in the Mosque Foundation community, and on Saturday, June 20th, two special guest speakers shared their insight into this explosive situation, far from the political spin of the western media. Said Nafaa, a Palestinian member of Knesset representing the Balad Party, was jailed by the Israelis for an extended period of time for refusing to serve in the Israeli army. Mr. Nafaa criticized the Israeli government's rhetoric of calling for peace while their continuing acts of aggression and oppression prove the opposite.

Archbishop of Jerusalem, Hilarion Capucci, was also jailed by the Israelis for assisting the Palestinian resistance movement. Through intervention by the Vatican on his behalf, Archbishop Capucci was released from prison after serving three years, but has lived in exile in Italy since his release. "I am Arab! And as a man of the cloth, I am nothing but a shepherd watching over my flock. The oppressed Palestinian men, women and children are my flock, how my heart longs to be among them," the 88 year old Archbishop poignantly paused, then continued, "I long to beautify my eyes with the sight of my beloved Jerusalem once more before I die."

**A very special thanks to ADC-Chicago for organizing this event.
