Message From Imam Kifah Mustapha ~   Grant Me Patience O Allah

We cannot survive for a moment without patience. Our life is a journey of hardships as stated in the Quran, Allah said: {very truly, We created man in [a life of] travail} 90:4. Imam Al Fakhr Al Razi said, "Our creation was in phases and all of it included hardships. From being in the mother's womb to the phase of breast feeding to the phase of working for survival and then death!

Message From Mosque Foundation President Dr. Zaher Sahloul - End of Life Issues

This is the first segment of an educational series about End of Life issues. Recently, the Mosque Foundation held a symposium about this topic. The symposium was well attended and many community members asked for more education about this important subject. In the next few issues of Community Pulse, we will touch on issues surrounding the end of life from medical, ethical and Islamic perspectives.

Fiqh of Hadith - Joining the Salah      by Sh. Kifah Mustapha

Abu Bakrah (RAA) reached (joined) the prophet (PBUH) (in Salah) while in Ruku'. He made Ruku' before he reached the line (of Prayer). He mentioned that to the Prophet (PBUH) and the Prophet (PBUH) said, "May Allah increase your eagerness (caring to join Salah) but do not come (doing it again)."  Hadith narrated by Bukhari.   Read more...

actiondayOnce again, on May 21st, the Council led an Action Day in Springfield to address several important issues to our communities. As part of the Council's Muslim ACTION! Day, close to 500 Muslim leaders, activists and students flocked to Springfield to meet their state representatives to advocate for the introduction of Arabic language in public schools, public education funding reforms, rally against online gambling and to support state "cap & trade" environmental legislation.  Read more...

FBI Does Not Spy on Mosques Claims Grant    by Kiran Ansari

grantTo answer questions from the Muslim community, the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago invited Robert Grant, Special Agent in charge of the Chicago Office, to the House of Representatives meeting at the Mosque Foundation on May 16.

"The FBI unequivocally does not plant informants in mosques or any other houses of worship," said Grant.   Read more...

Many parents in our community assume that their child will never be exposed to drugs in a middle class suburban high school or middle school, and consequently never have "the talk" to warn of the dangers of these social illnesses. MFCC High School Forum tackled this disturbing issue on May 16th with special guest speaker Kevin Smith, and an original mini documentary produced by Muslim students at Stagg High School.  Read more...
