Volunteer Spotlight – Fatima Nassar
By Connie Martin
One might wonder how a widow with five children, two of whom face serious physical challenges, could find the time or the energy to volunteer her time. Yet Fatima Nassar takes life’s challenges in stride and considers volunteering her time and service to the masjid as a duty. “After my husband passed away, I made a promise to God to work for His sake, and to choose the best place for my kids to spend their time in.” Fatima says.
Fatima is a regular volunteer with the Women’s Committee, the Fundraising Committee, and the Ramadan Committee at the Mosque Foundation. When asked how she can manage such a hectic schedule, Fatima replied, “It’s not really a physical energy, but more of a spiritual energy, and Allah puts barakah in the time and energy someone uses to serve Him. I have witnessed so many things that have given me strength and increased my spiritual power, and for every trial, Allah gives me more energy and more power to help.”
Fatima urges everyone to volunteer in some way for the sake of Allah. “All of life’s pressures go when you are helping and taking the focus off yourself. It brings comfort in life, so work for the sake of Allah now because you never know when the day will come that you might not be able to work anymore.” |
