Gaza Statement

By Mosque Foundation

Once again, the 1.5 million Palestinians living in a twenty first century prison called Gaza are being massacred under the silent eyes of the civilized world. For nearly two years, the impoverished people of Gaza have suffered from a debilitating siege, perpetuated by Israeli government, that has severely restricted the flow of food, drink, medicine, electricity, fuel, employment, and other requirements of human dignified existence.

In the last few days, the world has witnessed an unconscionable escalation of what is nothing less than “collective punishment” in the form of relentless bombing of Gaza’s dense population centers. Hundreds of Palestinians have died, and thousands injured, most of them are innocent civilians. In one family in Jabalia Refugee Camp, four sisters have died after their home, bombed by the Israeli airplanes, collapsed on them while asleep.

People of conscience should not remain silent about this senseless bloodshed. We cannot understate the moral impoverishment in allowing the violence to continue, let alone spiral. We call for an immediate end to all the violence, and we ask fair-minded Americans to join us in this call.

The deplorable humanitarian conditions in Gaza, according to several human rights organizations, are beyond description. Our government has a moral responsibility to stop the Israeli aggression on the helpless people of Palestine.

The Muslim Community of the Mosque Foundation demands an immediate end to the Israel’s aggression and brutal assault on the Palestinians struggling to survive in Gaza; a complete and immediate end to the starvation and seige of Gaza; and for Israel’s full compliance with all international resolutions. We ask all people of conscience to perform their moral duty by:

  1. Calling Senator Dick Durbin at (312) 353-4952 and politely and firmly ask that the Senate should call for an immediate halt of Israeli brutal assault on the Palestinian people of Gaza
  2. Calling Congressman Daniel Lipinski, Illinois third district, at (202) 225-5701 and politely and firmly ask that the Congress should call upon Israel to halt its brutal assault on the Palestinian people of Gaza
  3. Calling Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice at (202) 647-4000 and politely and firmly demand that our State Department call for an instant halt of Israeli assault on Gaza and condemn the Israeli use of disproportionate force against the Palestinian people of Gaza
  4. Join the demonstration on Friday, January 2nd at 3pm at 435 N Michigan Ave. (Tribune Plaza). Be disciplined, calm and respective of other people and do not use any inflammatory language or gestures.

In following the teachings of all of God’s Prophets and Messengers, let us call for what is right, forbid what is wrong, and to pray for those who suffer wherever they maybe.

We must act to stop the violence and atrocities in Gaza. Please forward your article to the many mosques in the Chicago area and also to all newspapers for publication. Keep up your pro-active stance.

Salam Aleikom:
As I e-mailed my brothers & sisters of Aqsa School, we can pray for the people of Gaza, we can donate to any humanitarian institution such as the Palestinian Red Cross & Red Crescent Society, or any other humanitarian institution of your preference. We can also, as constituency, communicate to our politicians our concerns about the genocide in Gaza. Thanks Mosque Foundation for being pro-active!
